Charity News

We've briefly mentioned that Rabbit Awareness Week is coming later this month, so we thought we'd take a brief opportunity to let you know a little more about what it is, and what we'll be doing as part of the week too.

Rabbit Awareness Week is an annual event, this year running from 15th - 22nd September, and is organised by a number of partners who have been officially appointed because of their expertise in some or all aspects of rabbit welfare. These partners include Burgess Excel, Panacur Rabbit, RSPCA, PDSA, The Blue Cross, Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) and Wood Green The Animals Charity. With such a wealth of expertise round the table, pet owners can be sure that any rabbit information they see under the official RAW brand is sure to be correct and ully in line with the five rabbit welfare needs..

But why bother? Well, rabbits continue to be the UK's 3rd most popular pet, thanks to their high level of intelligence, the interactivity and how fun they can be to watch & play with. However, there are still a lot of myths and misinformation around the best care for pet rabbits, and indeed their basic welfare needs.

So Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) was created where rabbit experts (such as vets, pet retailers, welfare charities and manufacturers) work together during a dedicated week to educate the pet owning public about proper rabbit care and welfare.

During the week many vets across the UK will be offering FREE health checks for local rabbits. It doesn't matter if your rabbits have never been to the vet before, its never too late to get them health checked by the experts. We will tell you about free health checks that our vet partners will be carrying out too.

Our entire service surrounds this kind of welfare advice and support, so during the week we will continue to offer rabbit welfare advice via our website, facebook, twitter and by telephone.

We will also be running a special "Rabbit Awareness Week: Binky Hunt!". This will be a scavenger hunt game that you can register to join and take part with in your own local area - all you need to take part in the scavenger hunt is a method of transport, an email address, a camera (or mobile phone with a camera) and access to Facebook or email. The treasure hunt will cost £5 per team (we suggest teams of 2 may work best), and will take place on Saturday 22nd September 2012, from 12noon. The winner will win a Two Night Stay for Two in a Loch Lomond Hotel. For more information visit

If you have any suggestions for additional activities we could do during RAW, please don't hesitate to drop us an email or post it on our Facebook page and we'll see what we can do.

Do you have a small group of your own? Help us spread the word of how much fun keeping groups can be.

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Fairly Beloved Rabbit Care have been accepted to hold a stall at this year’s Royal Highland Show. The show runs at Ingliston, Edinburgh near Edinburgh Airport from Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th June 2012. It is a jam packed event, with plenty for absolutely everyone on display from cattle, sheep, horses, crafts, the world famous food hall, cars, machinery, army displays and more.

Each day, our stall (in 1st Avenue in the Lifestyle Village) will display lots of rabbit welfare information, will have rabbits on show with supervised handling sessions running throughout the day. Our volunteers will be on hand to offer expert advice. Our lucky dip will be running with a chance to win a prize every time.

The Royal Highland Show offers a unique opportunity for us to get our message in front of literally (hundreds of) thousands of people over the four days of the show.

This opportunity is a massive investment for us, and one we’ve not taken lightly. But the opportunity was too good to miss. If we “play it right” it’s an excellent opportunity to raise serious funds for the rabbits, but just as important it is the largest audience we could ever hope to greet with our message for rabbit welfare.

We need you to help make it a success.

  • Come & Visit us at the show
  • We’re looking for volunteers to help man the event. If you can give us some of your time, please get in touch – whether it’s a few hours, a full day, or more.

This Saturday Fairly Beloved Rabbit Care is holding our awareness stalls at two local events.

Our first stall is at Torwood Garden Centre, Larbert. This is a family run garden centre offering a fantastic range of garden plants, gifts, furniture, pets and aquatics, and also hosts "Blossoms" bistro - a popular local eating place in its own right. With information and advice from our FBRC experts, and the chance to meet a Continental Giant rabbit, this is an excellent opportunity to learn a little more about the work that we do.

At the same time, a similar display of information & advice is on show at Neilston Cattle Show and Sheep Dog Trials, featuring our long term fosters Fifi & Belle who are both longing for their forever home. Also at the show are a wide range of farm animals including sheep and cattle, horses & equestrian activities, dog trials and much more - a real family day out.
