Charity News

The Vodafone Foundation World of Difference UK programme gives 500 people the chance to work for their dream charity, and get paid. Over the years they’ve helped hundreds of people donate their skills and experience to the charities of their choice.

For successful applicants the Vodafone Foundation will provide their chosen charity with £2500, with the winner receiving the balance as a salary after NI and tax have been paid. Placements can be full-time for two months or part-time for four months (minimum 15 hours a week).

Obviously for a charity as small as we are, our funds just don’t allow for any paid members of staff at all, and we are solely reliant on volunteers to run the entire service. David & Feona, our charity directors, also run all aspects of the charity in their spare time, trying to fit everything around full-time employment & family life. As such, some of our big ideas have not yet left the ground as finding time to complete these special one-off projects is near-on-impossible.

The World of Difference programme therefore presents an interesting opportunity, and we would be keen to speak to anyone who thinks they could commit their time to developing & implementing a special project for the charity.

If you’ve got the passion and drive to make a real difference to our work, and further improvement in local rabbit welfare, why not get involved?

The process is simple:

  1. Discuss ideas for a project with us (call us on 0141 280 3272 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to arrange a time to discuss it). Bring us your ideas, or ask us for some suggestions. We’ll chat about how we could best use your skills, manage the project, timings etc, and plan out everything you need to know in advance of making an application.
  2. Once we’ve an idea of what you’d be able to do, make your application to the Vodafone World of Difference programme. You need to make the application, but we will offer support where it is relevant to do so. The application deadline is 13th November 2012.
  3. The Vodafone Foundation will review applications and select 500 placements. Successful applicants will be notified after 14th January 2013.
  4. If you are lucky enough to be selected, you must start your placement between 1st March and 29 March 2013.

Please note that funding for these projects is limited to successful Vodafone Foundation World of Difference applicants only, and we will not be able to honour any funding placements if applicants are unsuccessful. It may still be possible for projects to continue unfunded dependent on circumstances.

For more information on the programme, visit The Vodafone Foundation World of Difference website.

You can now play our Binky Hunt scavenger hunt, an excellent family fun activity, for free JUST FOR FUN!

Unfortunately, due to a significant lack of participants, we do not feel it would be viable to run Binky Hunt as a competition. We are therefore withdrawing the competition. We still have the prize available and will consider an alternative fundraiser competition in the near future.

Registration fees for the few people who did register have now been refunded.

However, we still think that Binky Hunt could be an excellent piece of family fun, so have decided to publish the game for you to play, at any time.

Following feedback from people who could not participate in our Binky Hunt due to other commitments we have made a couple of amendments to our competition rules.

To give more people an opportunity to join in, we've changed the starting time on Saturday to 10:00 BST, and you will now have until Sunday 23rd September at 18:00BST to complete the scanvenger hunt.

We've also removed the bonus points for completing first, in order to make it fairer.

So if you want to join in our scavenger hunt for a bit of fun with your family and friends, register today at

We've briefly mentioned that Rabbit Awareness Week is coming later this month, so we thought we'd take a brief opportunity to let you know a little more about what it is, and what we'll be doing as part of the week too.

Rabbit Awareness Week is an annual event, this year running from 15th - 22nd September, and is organised by a number of partners who have been officially appointed because of their expertise in some or all aspects of rabbit welfare. These partners include Burgess Excel, Panacur Rabbit, RSPCA, PDSA, The Blue Cross, Rabbit Welfare Association & Fund (RWAF) and Wood Green The Animals Charity. With such a wealth of expertise round the table, pet owners can be sure that any rabbit information they see under the official RAW brand is sure to be correct and ully in line with the five rabbit welfare needs..

But why bother? Well, rabbits continue to be the UK's 3rd most popular pet, thanks to their high level of intelligence, the interactivity and how fun they can be to watch & play with. However, there are still a lot of myths and misinformation around the best care for pet rabbits, and indeed their basic welfare needs.

So Rabbit Awareness Week (RAW) was created where rabbit experts (such as vets, pet retailers, welfare charities and manufacturers) work together during a dedicated week to educate the pet owning public about proper rabbit care and welfare.

During the week many vets across the UK will be offering FREE health checks for local rabbits. It doesn't matter if your rabbits have never been to the vet before, its never too late to get them health checked by the experts. We will tell you about free health checks that our vet partners will be carrying out too.

Our entire service surrounds this kind of welfare advice and support, so during the week we will continue to offer rabbit welfare advice via our website, facebook, twitter and by telephone.

We will also be running a special "Rabbit Awareness Week: Binky Hunt!". This will be a scavenger hunt game that you can register to join and take part with in your own local area - all you need to take part in the scavenger hunt is a method of transport, an email address, a camera (or mobile phone with a camera) and access to Facebook or email. The treasure hunt will cost £5 per team (we suggest teams of 2 may work best), and will take place on Saturday 22nd September 2012, from 12noon. The winner will win a Two Night Stay for Two in a Loch Lomond Hotel. For more information visit

If you have any suggestions for additional activities we could do during RAW, please don't hesitate to drop us an email or post it on our Facebook page and we'll see what we can do.
